Training End of Year Review
Final training session of the year now logged. Not so much a resolution, but hope to break the 1M kg mark next year.
Improvements on the main lifts this year:
Lift | Old PR | New PR | Increase |
---|---|---|---|
Squat | 140kg | 160kg | +20kg/14% |
Bench Press | 92.5kg | 102.5kg | +10kg/11% |
Deadlift | 180kg | 192.5kg | +12.5kg/7% |
Overhead Press | 67.5kg | 70kg | +2.5kg/4% |
Main focus last year was on fixing my Squat. Had all types of problems with it, mostly to do with the weight shifting forward when coming out of the hole. Improved that a lot, and still plenty to work on, but real happy with that progress.
Making the move to a more thoughtful form of workout programming also made a huge difference (i.e. utilizing RPE). Was reticent to do this for a number of years, but actually enjoying the more intellectual aspect to workouts now (instead of just grunting through them), and hoping for similar or better improvements next year by building on this experience.
Undoubted highlight was finally joining the 1,000 lbs club the weekend of my 49th birthday. This 1,000 pound (1K#) combined weight total of the squat, bench press and deadlift is a bit of an arbitrary number that doesn't take age or body weight into consideration, but I latched onto it a while back as a qualifying total that although pretty meagre by powerlifting standards, tells me that I'm continuing in the right direction on this journey of improving my physical well-being that I started some years back.
