Weightlifting Video Analysis

Only just became aware of this weightlifting video analysis app. I've used Kineovea in the past, but even on a decent PC it's dog-slow as it appears to do real-time processing (badly!),  but the phone app processes and caches it's data for smooth playback.

The bar path tracking is pretty handy, if like me, you "coach" yourself. This will pick up things like having the bar shift forward when coming out of the bottom of the squat (want to avoid creating a moment arm making the weight heavier), or if you're getting the proper "J" movement when bench pressing (want to get the bar back above the shoulders quickly). The velocity tracking also offers some good insights - e.g. same weight moving faster == getting stronger.

Tested it by comparing a set of six 127.5kg squats from last week (after a 5wk training block with 12 such sets - top video), with 132.5kg ones this week (in a new training block, so a 5kg increase - bottom video). Average velocity is pretty close, but as expected, the lighter weight has higher max and lower min velocities, but by the end of this 5wk block I'll be able to measure any improvement instead of going by feel, and hopefully make a better informed decision on what the target weight for the block after this should be. Should also be helpful for gauging recovery - a consistent drop of velocity on similar weights would suggest fatigue and a need to lower the weight for a bit.
